an excuse to procrastinate [22 Apr 2006|03:24pm]
Step 1: Put your iPod or whatever on random.
Step 2: Post the first line from the first 30 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song.
Step 3: Post and let everyone you know guess what song and artist the lines come from.
Step 4: Strike out the songs when someone guesses correctly.
Step 5: Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING

1. I would die for you, I would die for you, I've been dying just to feel you by my side.
2. We were strangers starting out on a journey, never dreaming what we'd have to go through.
3. Can you hear me, can you see any part of me, can you feel me, can you bleed for me.
4. You're on a wide open ocean, no one around you for miles.
5. Spring sweet rhythm dance inside my head, slip into my lover's hands.
6. I didn't know your mother, but this is what I have been told: she cried and she cried when she gave you up, three days old.
7. Just the thought of our bed, makes me crumble like the plaster where you punched the wall beside my head.
8. He told me sweet lies of sweet love, heavy with the burden of truth.
9. Baby, sweet baby, won’t you please come on back home to me.
10. She’s got you wrapped up in her satin and lace, tied around her little finger.
11. I reside in 209, you’re in 208, you moved in last Friday night and I just couldn’t wait.
12. I’ve been thinking about you and me, maybe I was just seeing what I wanted to see.
13. I want to believe in myself once again, so I dream of a man whose hopes never end.
14. Dear baby, I’m not sorry for leaving you this way, but I know I should have told you face to face.
15. A thousand years, a thousand more, a thousand times a million doors to return to.
16. Hang up your chick habit, hang it up daddy or you’ll be alone in a quick.
17. Out of my way, out of my way, I can’t pass up this opportunity to make myself absurd.
18. Who needs the sun when the rain’s so full of life, who needs the sky.
19. I saw her, yeah I saw her with her black tongue tied round the roses.
20. Everything is quiet since you’re not around, and I live in numbness now in the background.
21. Lately I’ve been feeling low, a remedy is what I’m seeking.
22. Silenced by death in the grave, William Butler Yeats couldn’t save.
23. Galileo’s head was on the block, the crime was looking up the truth.
24. Seven days was all she wrote, a kind of ultimatum note she gave to me.
25. To my mother, to my father, it’s your son or it’s your daughter, are my screams loud enough for you to hear me.
26. Come on now, don’t you want to see, this thing that’s happening to me.
27. You can like the life you’re living, you can live the life you like.
28. Awaken to a world devoid of hope and faith, I don’t want to look anymore but it won’t go away.
29. I dreamt I dwelt in marble halls, with vassals and serfs at my side.
30. I am a vision, I am justice, never thought that I could love living in shadows, fading existence.

Androgynous
You Scored 145 out of 210 Cliche Points!
You are the lesbian that people are always trying to pin down and label. You can pass as a tomboy-ish straight girl and often have both men and women vying for some attention from you. You are happily in the middle of the road and never get too much shit for "flaunting" your sexuality. The world is your oyster, Sappho, just don't choke!

My test tracked 1 variable How you compared to other people your age and gender:

I'm back at Smith! That fact alone has provided me with enough material to write 47 entries, but that task seems rather daunting so I think I'll stick to one for now. No one really wants to read 47 entries about HONS training and unpacking anyway... or even one for that matter. The events of the past week have been some of the most useless, boring activities imaginable. In fact, using the word "activities" is to give credit where no credit is due because all cell movement (especially brain cells) in my body came to an abrupt stop after the first workshop.
I think China and I are far too excited about our HONS (Head of New Students) duties. The pre-orientation first-years arrived yesterday and the rest arrive tomorrow. So far they seem pretty self-sufficient which saddens us a little. We both want to be loved and needed. And yes, this is ALL about us. We invited them on a walk around the pond last night and we were rejected so we walked alone (which ended up being awesome). I think we are going to end up with a HONS board full of headings like "The HONS and First-Year Picnic" and "The HONS and First-Year Slumber Party" followed by pictures of China and me sitting on blankets by the pond and lying in sleeping bags munching popcorn. There will be not one first-year in sight. Good thing we enjoy each other's company!

Being back at Smith makes me feel so great. I have really missed it the last few months. There is an inner part of me that lies dormant in Kennebunk and just vibrates with life here. I have been spending lots of time walking around just breathing in the smells of this campus. It's a beautiful place to live and I am so lucky to be back! Now if only I could figure out a way to see Becca on a semi-regular basis, I would be in a state very close to Nirvana. I'm not sure I've ever felt this kind of longing for someone before and I can't say it's met with my approval. I'm eagerly awaiting Julie's arrival on Sunday because I have missed her a lot this summer and can't wait to have a roommate again. I have organized a lot of my stuff at this point but I have refrained from hanging my posters (except Ani which just had to go up) so that we can put the finishing touches on the room together.

In conclusion and in celebration of the start of a new year, I raise a toast to intellectual stimulation, adaptability, the openness that comes with innocence, and the beauty and pain that come with love.

Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday dear Andrew
Happy Birthday to you

On this day 19 years ago my best friend began his existance as an independent being, a state which would continue until 7th grade. At that time he made my acquaintance and we have been codependent ever since. Andrew Schlegel Johnson is my non-sexual soulmate, my fashion consultant, and my better half.

I have only one thing to say to the most wonderful person alive:

I LOVE YOU!!!

I promise some actual updates when I get to school [23 Aug 2005|05:44pm]
In the last 24 Hours have you...
1. Had sex: I like how my girlfriend completely avoided this question by rambling about what an interesting way it was to start a survey.
2. Bought something: no
3. Gotten sick: nope
4. Sang: There have never been 24 consecutive hours of my life in which I have not sung.
5. Been kissed: yep!
6. Eaten something: Ummm isn’t this a given? I can hardly handle 24 minutes let alone 24 hours without food. I had pizza and corn last night, raisin bran this morning, a peanut butter and honey sandwich, carrots, and an apple for lunch, and I ate a granola bar on the car ride home from work.
7. Felt stupid: Not especially. Not more than usual that is.
8. Talked to an ex: no
9. Missed someone: yes

Last person who....
1. Slept in your bed: I’m assuming this is not supposed to include me? The last additional person in my bed was Miss Rebecca.
2. Saw you cry: Becca
3. Made you cry: Becca
4. Went to the movies with: Wow this is pathetic. I think it was all the way back in June. I went with Jarret and Cat and Luke to see Star Wars.
5. You went to the mall with: Well I went to Borders and Best Buy with Becca a while ago. I think that must be the last time I went.
6. One thing you could take back: I said some things last week I regret saying but an important conversation came out of it so maybe it wasn’t so bad. P.S. I agree with Mlle. Jarvis about the fact that this is in the wrong category.

Have You Ever...
1. Said "I Love You" and meant it: yes
2. Got in a fight with your pet: Pepper ate all my orthodontic elastics once… but I was secretly very happy. I can’t say there is too much friction between us these days other than the fact that she moves slower than a snail and stands right in the way. I love her anyway :)
3. Been to California: nope but that will all change come March.
5. Been to China: no
6. Been to Canada: Many times, most recently with Andrew on our trip to Montreal!
7. Been to Europe: yes – England, Scotland, Wales, and France
8. Wished you were the opposite sex: not really

1. Do you have a crush on someone: I think it has moved past crush at this point but I will still count it :)
2. What book are you reading now: I have been reading Middlesex all summer (because I’m not really reading much)
3. Worst feeling in the world: Knowing someone is mad at me and having no way to fix it.
4. Future kids names: I like Taylor, Tori, Emma, Olive and a few others but I have trouble remembering them
5. Do you sleep with a stuffed animal: yes, Marshmallow the badger, Ducky the bear, and two unnamed possums.
6. Favorite sports to watch: I hate watching sports. I guess I’d have to say skiing is the best, but that might just be the company I watch it with
7. Favorite Location: Either the beach or the woods.
8. Piercing/Tattoos: I have five earlobe piercings, one cartilage, one rook, one conch, and one nose. I would like very much to have a tattoo at some point in the near future.
10. Do you drink: yes but not regularly
11. What are you most scared of right now: saying goodbye at the end of the summer and surviving the insane amount of work I am going to be doing next semester
12. Where do you want to get married: I’m not sure I will ever get married but if I did, it would be outside.
13. Who do you really hate: I’m not sure I can come up with anyone right now. I tend to only hate people temporarily.
14. Do you have a job: I have two more days as a landscaper. I will probably be working in the library at school.
15. Do you like being around people: In small numbers and small doses, yes.
16. Have you ever liked someone you had no chance with: oh yes
17. Have you ever cried: Ummmm, stupid question. Of course!
18. Are you lonely right now: I’m a little tired and slightly depressed but I’m not feeling terribly lonely. I am enjoying time to myself.
19. Song that's stuck in your head a lot: I don’t have any regulars. It all depends on what I have been listening to. Stephanie on the other hand has had “I Can Show You the World” stuck in her head since about 1993 and often manages to get it stuck in mine.
20. Been in love: yes
21. Played strip poker: no
22. Gotten beaten up: nope. I have been attacked by my sister but I don’t think that counts.
23. Done an all-nighter: a number of them
24. Been on radio/TV: Yes, when I was 6 months old I was on television in footage of a protest march on the Bush Compound in Kennebunkport
25. Been in a mosh-pit: nope
26. Do you have any gay/lesbian friends: Ewww, that’s gross! Come on people, I go to Smith College for Christsake. I also managed to befriend every homosexual in the town of Kennebunk before the age of 14. Then there’s band camp… Basically if you are straight and consider yourself my friend, you are in the minority.

You Are a Newborn Soul

You are tolerant, accepting, and willing to give anyone a chance.
On the flip side, you're easy to read and easily influenced by others.
You have a fresh perspective on life, and you can be very creative.
Noconformist and nontraditional, you've never met anyone who's like you.

Inventive and artistic, you like to be a trendsetter.
You have an upbeat spirit and you like almost everything.
You make friends easily and often have long standing friendships.
Implusive and trusting, you fall in love a little too easily.

Souls you are most compatible with: Bright Star Soul and Dreaming Soul

Perhaps I am just being a paranoid liberal but I think there is a good possibility that we have a draft in our future and today I decided it was time to take some action. I did research on what it takes to prove that I am a conscientious objector and I am going to start asking people with whom I have protested or discussed my opposition to war to write me letters so that I am prepared to make my case.
I have spent the morning researching after-college plans which include declaring citizenship somewhere outside the US. I looked at Canada, Vietnam, Northern Africa, and France and I think I am zeroing in on going to grad school in France and establishing a job there which might be able to get me citizenship on its own, or at least buy me visa time until I can work up my 5 years residency so I can start the application process for citizenship (which takes 2-3 years itself). Anyone know a French man interested in a marriage of convenience? That would make everything much easier. I can knit him sweaters in return.
So all this talk of getting out of the country may sound slightly random but I go through these periodic phases where I look around me and see nothing but greed, corruption, and arrogance and just want to leave. I have dreamt of living in a different country for as long as I can remember and this is my motivation to actually do it.

On a lighter note, I had an awesome day yesterday. Becca came in the afternoon and we walked on the beach and then met Andrew for sushi and a Bull Moose run where I purchased a Joan Osborne and two old Madonna cds for $3 each in the used section. :) It's nights like last night that make thinking about moving across the ocean really difficult.
I was convinced to make today a productive day so I need to go send about 20 emails to people who probably think I have forgotten them or died or already fled the country and then work on cleaning out my email folders and running anti-virus updates and fun things like that. Perhaps I will also get a start on my HONS letter... China I think I am going to send you an email so we can work out how we are doing this, so yell at me if I you don't get one. Oh and I also want to research possibilities for internships/jobs for next summer so I can start figuring that out. Basically I need to find myself a personal secretary who can be organized for me. Any volunteers?
